Well, let me tell you.... Every year my young women's group plans this big weekend to visit Salt Lake City during the Young Women's Conference. I am in the young women's leadership so I got to go and lucky Doug got sucked in to coming too. (cus he is my hubby).
So we drove down early Friday morning (5am) to the Relief Society Building and had a tour by one of the board members. It was so amazing to listen to our church's history. I admire all those women in leadership positions for their strong testimonies in Christ.
After that meeting we had a grand tour of the Conference center, and checked out more of the church office buildings. It was a long day of walking all over Temple square. It was worth every single step we took!
After those buildings we went over to the Salt Lake Temple and did baptisms for the dead. That was a first for Doug and I. The Salt Lake Temple is so beautiful. After that wonderful experience we went to the "Lion House" to eat lunch. For all those people who have never enjoyed the Lion House rolls... you are totally missing out. It is mouth wateringly good!! Talk about amazing... I had the best salmon and Doug had prime rib. Way yummy food!!!
Then after that we ventured over to the Joseph Smith building and watched the movie "Joseph Smith prophet of the restoration". I cry every single time I watch that movie. The spirit was so strong and I even saw Doug cry at certain parts too.
After that we had to drag all of the girls back to the hotel and put them to bed. It was so funny to watch them slowly wind down and zonk. O the life of a teenage girl!!
The Young Women's leaders!
On Saturday we woke up way early and headed out to the cemetery where all the prophets of our church have been buried. It was really interesting to see President Hinckley's grave. Did you know that his tombstone is made from left over stone from the New conference building? Well it is! It was very spiritual to be on that sacred ground. That night we all attended the Young Women's Conference. It was truly amazing to be among 21,ooo young women in that conference center. And just think that there are still thousands more that heard it through technology all over the world.
So side note story: so after the conference we (23 girls plus 7 women) tried to stick together as we were leaving the building... well one of the girls turned around and started to head back into the building because she left her purse inside. I noticed it just in time to run after her. 5 minutes later we found her purse and headed out into the crowd... sadly we had not been noticed as leaving from our group, which means we both were now lost from our people. I remembered the leaders saying to meet at the fountain. Well we headed to the large water fall in the front of the conference center and waited.... and waited... and waited. Mean while back with the rest of the group they realized that we were missing and began a search party for us. Our yw's president got inspired to look for us near the falls and sure enough found us. Sadly I didn't know there was another fountain on the lower level because there were tons of girls and I couldn't see the fountain. So yeah I was the lame leader that was lost with one of my young women. Great story to put in the journal, I guess!
So some of the other fun things we did was visit Welfare Square. For those who don't know what that is. It is where the Bishop's store house is for Utah. It has huge granaries, and this is also where the humanitarian packages are put together and shipped out to the countries after disaster strikes.
Some of the girls and me at the Welfare Square in the cheese section.
O another side note: So while we were on Temple Square we began to bride watch. The young women would shout out "I see a modest bride" and all the girls would OO and AHH over their modest wedding gowns. It was so much fun to see their excitement over the brides and that they had the "Eternal Glow". I absolutely love working with the young women. It is a breath of fresh air! Thanks girls for those wonderful memories and weird experiences we all will laugh at!!
Well until we meet again, I hope all is great in your neck of the woods!
