projects!!

Hello,
So lately I have been on this project kick. Poor Doug is sucked into so many with out even knowing what is coming. But he is a wonderful sport about it ... most times. So the newest itch I got was after years of looking at anawhite.com or "knock off wood". and seeing some wonderful furniture ideas that are made simple for people like me. So I finally decided to just take the challenge and build one myself. So the first project was a shelf/book shelf. I have been needing a place to put things in my living room and this project seemed perfect. Slight problem though.. the plans consisted of two shelves. The ply wood once cut made two of the shelves. So I convinced my friend to come join me in this project and she could have one of her own. So we started out thinking our project would take like three hours... nope 5 hours into it and we had made hardly any progress on my shelf and more on her since I was holding Brooklyn most of the time and trying to read the directions. Thank heavens Doug took pity on us and began to help us out and we got the project done so much faster after that.
This is as far as I got on my shelf, before we (Kelly and I) decided to just focus on hers and get hers done.

After we got hers done then Doug helped me with mind. He was so exact with everything. I totally got to see the "engineer" side of him. The measurements had to be just so. Where I was more likely to just wing it and call it good. Thank heavens he came in and stopped that, or I would have had a very messed up shelf. haha
This is Kelly's shelf before she painted it.

Brooklyn and I supervising the project most of the time and reminding Doug not to skip any of the steps on the directions. haha

TahDaa!!! Look all of Doug's hard work paid off. He did such a great job making sure I didn't screw up. haha

After I painted it I had a genius idea to use some of the bead board that the previous house owners had left. It was just the right size to add to the top shelf. I think it adds a little fun personality to it. So there you have it: my first... I mean Doug's and I's first project together. Now I am so excited to start on another project. I think I will make my "farmhouse" bed frame that I saw on anawhite.com
Well I hope all is great in your neck of the woods!
