My first wood project by myself

Hello,
So I am madly in love with Anna White Projects. If you ever want to learn how to make your own furniture and feel accomplished that you finished something so amazing check out www.anna-white.com .
Anyways Doug and I have done a few projects : Our bed frame, bookshelf, decor shelving, and laundry cubbies. There are a whole lot more on our to do list too. But lately i have had the itch to do a project with out having to ask Doug for help. I know that sounds really "jerk-ish" of me. But I feel bad always having to wait to do a project when Doug is home and take up his time a lot. So I grabbed my project plans and my cell phone ( just in case I had to call Doug at work) and began my project.
So my project was to build a fort/tent for Brooklyn to play in. I looked at my plans and the tent would be around 6 ft and that would be way to big for her room. So I altered the plans so that it would be a little over 4.5 ft.
After calling Doug twice to figure out how to turn the saw on I was ready.

These are the two sides of the tent. The longest part of the my three and a half hour project was finding the right nuts and bolts to put into the two sides so that they would match and swivel correctly.

Making sure I was wearing my protective gear. Don't I look like I know what I am doing!!

The poles were finally cut and set together. So that I could screw them in. I did find that I had to put more stabilizing pieces so that it wouldn't push over so easily.

I was really pushing for painting the poles pink, but Doug doesn't seem to have a lot of pink spray paint laying around. So I grabbed what he had and used it. So it was a beautiful navy blue.

Once it was all dry I was able to set up the tent in Brooklyn's room. She loved it so much. The king size sheet wasn't working. A dear friend of mine said she had some brand new ambulance cart sheet she had laying around. So we tried that and the length was perfect to reach the bottom on both sides.

She has spent hours in that tent reading, singing and playing with her toys.
I am so glad that I made this lovely tent for her to play in. Yes it took me the entire 3 and a half hours of Brooklyn's nap time to accomplish putting it together, but to see the joy on her face it was priceless.

* So nearly 5 months later Brooklyn got a little tykes play house for her birthday and she wanted that in her room instead of the tent I worked so hard to make. So I came up with the best idea for the location of the tent. Our favorite little boy neighbor got a fun surprise from Brooklyn. We gave him the tent since he loved hanging out over at our house playing in it, and Brooklyn no longer wanted to have my cool project up in her room I know that little Drezdan would use that tent a whole lot more.
So until then I hope all is great in your neck of the woods.
