Well another September has rolled around... and guess what we do that month. Yes you guessed it, we as a family go compete up in Sandpoint, ID at the International Draft Horse Competition. This year was no different. Our little Bug was such a trooper as we took her to the barn earlier than most kids would go and left the barn way past bed time. This year we all ( and I mean everyone in our group) got the bad case of the stomach flu. It started with Brian and Caren's little one, Dillion. He threw up the night before we all left. Then Brooklyn threw up too. Then I got sick all the way up to Sandpoint and threw up at the hotel most of the night. Then one by one everyone got it. The nice thing is that is usually didn't last more then 24-48 hours. So we all had such a wonderful bonding moment as a "family".
So this is how little Bug was most of the vacation, She lived in that backpack.
Michael was nice enough to share a few toys with her as we sat and watched Brian or Doug compete.
She was mostly all smiles as I hauled her to the grand stands and back to the big barn.
This is my favorite part of the competition. I love to watch Doug do something he loves. He placed every single time he went into the arena. He was on fire this year!!! This photo showed him driving the Tandem. So two horses in a single line. It can be a dangerous hitch if your lead horse ever decides to not follow directions. Thank heavens Doug drove Ace ( our golden horse) and Jackson. Jackson is Doug's baby. He seems to favor that horse.
As Daddy drove by Brooklyn would yell "Go Go Go Daddy!" It was so adorable.
This is a full view of Doug driving tandem. He is driving away with is Fourth place Ribbon! He did such a great job.
This is him in the line up. they make all the competitors line up and the judge walks by them and checks stuff out.
So on another side note of the shoe. Doug drives the Amateur Four Up. So two teams hitched together. He placed second this year, which was amazing. Only problem is that if he wins that competition he can never drive it again. Brian has won it and so if Doug wins then the next one to drive it could be me or one of the other helpers. Yikes since I haven't driven in a while!
This year I took off from driving due to lack of baby watchers. Last year I had my Amazing mother in law to help me, but this year they were out of town and couldn't come. So I sat out of competing. Which I wasn't to sad about. I have major anxiety issues with the horses and the show. Crazy I know. But maybe next year I will get that worked out and compete again.. and maybe barrel race again at the show. Well until then I hope all is great in your neck of the woods.
