Thinking in small terms!

"Old Douglas had a farm... a really small animal farm......"

So my dear husband is an Idaho boy at heart and just loves to have critters around at all times. So one of our newest ideas was having sheep. Yeup I now have part ownership in 8 sheep. But of course it is not just any type of sheep, but the most unique type of sheep I have heard of. They are either half Dorpers or purebred Dorpers. I probably spelt their name wrong, but anyways they are small sheep. They are like 1/3rd the size of a normal sheep. They even shed all by themselves. They are one of the lowest maintenance type of animal we have ever had. All we have to do is feed and water them and they are content. It is kinda fun to go out in the field and have them come running towards you. Some of the rams love to get attention. If you aren't watching they will smack you with their heads. It really doesn't hurt cus they can only reach your knee. But if you don't give them attention they will scratch at you with their front feet. It is the funniest thing to watch.

This is our little herd of sheep. We have a few rams and I think one female. The two purebred Dorpers are rams. One of them is Doug's favorite. His name is "George". Little George was bottle fed and so he really loves to come to people. He is the one 'Butting" Doug's hand in the photo. He loves to come running when he hears Doug's truck. Doug was out fencing one time and George was stuck to his side the whole time he was out in the field. Our two cow dogs love to chase and herd the sheep for us.
One time the dogs were chasing them around in a circle and little George broke from the herd and ran straight to Doug and stayed by his leg. The dogs came over but left him alone as long as he was near Doug. It was so cute to see.

This is Doug and I with little George. I am wearing the cutest red mud boots. We have flood irrigation near the sheep. So we are constantly going through mud to check on the sheep. Anyways that is our little adventure of being farmers.

So this is the end of the post. I hope all is great in your neck of the woods!!!
